Act 635 of the 86th Arkansas General Assembly established the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission. This commission commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in Arkansas by sanctioning events, encouraging research and education programs related to Civil War Arkansas, and preserving the sites that witnessed the Civil War in Arkansas. The Civil War Sesquicentennial was celebrated between 2011 and 2015. The Commission ceased to exist on December 31, 2015.On March 31, 2016, Governor Asa Hutchinson established the World War I Centennial Commemoration Committee to serve as the coordinator of events, projects, and memorials celebrating the World War I Centennial in the State of Arkansas during the years of 2017 and 2018.On August 27, 2017, Governor Asa Hutchinson created the Arkansas Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commemoration Committee to lead the state's remembrance of the women receiving the right to vote. The committee worked with Arkansans to plan activities, conduct research, and otherwise expand the understanding and appreciation of the significance of women’s suffrage in Arkansas. The Arkansas Women's Suffrage Centennial Commemoration Committee website was created to promote the work of the committee and state wide observation of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage. This collection's three supporting commemorative commission websites were originally hosted and maintained by the Department of Arkansas Heritage. These sites were web crawled by Arkansas State Archives staff in January 2021 for preservation and long term access.
